Lesson Title: Freedon and Slavery
Grade Level: 11th
Unit: Civil War
Content Standards: Understand the role of slavery in the south, and the effect it would have on the South if it were to end. Understand the impact of the end of slavery and the economy, on the North and South, with regards to the Pre-Civil War sentiments.
Instructional Objective(s): The students will use the information they have gathered over the past 2-days to begin creating their storyboard. The students will be given 2-3 days to complete their storyboards. Presentations will take place on day 4.
ACTIONBefore Class Preparation: The teacher will gather a model of a storyboard to present to the class.During Class Time: 2 - 3 days
Instructional Activities: The students will work in their groups on creating their storyboard based on the information they found and the challenge questions which served as guide for the information gathering.
Materials and Resources: Computer, video camera, downloaded photos, Rubric
MONITOROngoing Assessment(s): The teacher will use daily checklist to monitor student progress in completion of the storyboard and will provide input when requestedAccommodations and Extensions: Students with writing problems will be provided a word processor for completing reflection paper.Back-up Plan: Each group will submit an outline of their storyboard in the event of technological problems.EVALUATION Lesson Reflections and Notes: Each student will submit a scorecard for each group members based on the performance during the completion of the project. The teacher will complete a rubric scoring each members performance and contribution to the project. Students will submit their journal which contains their reflection of the challenge questions during the project.
